The Sprit of Highland High School Baseball

Stories

"It has been a half century since the Highland Rams Baseball team has taken state in baseball in 1966. As far as I know, it was the first and last time Highland took state in baseball. Highland also won state in basketball in 1966. Doug Howard (All American basketball and All State Baseball), John Landures (All State Basketball and Baseball), Rod Morley (lettered in four different sports) were on both the basketball and baseball teams. Highland's baseball field is where it is now. There were no home run fences, scoreboard or covered dugouts. The year Highland took state we beat West High School at Derk's Field for region and later beat Granite High School for the state championship title. The next year we lost to Murray High School at Derk's Field for the repeat. It is too bad Coach John Pino, Jim Johnson and Assistant Principal Larry Palmer didn't get to see the new field. They would be very impressed. Good luck to the Highland Baseball Team!"
